Grants to Green

St. Jude’s Recovery Center is Going Green!

Grants to GreenThe Community Partnerships Committee of The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta recently approved a Grants to Green Assessment Award for St. Jude’s Recovery Center. Grants to Green primarily seeks to transform the nonprofit sector in the Atlanta region by encouraging nonprofits to build “Green.”  A green or environmentally sustainable building is a building, which in its design, construction and operation, makes a minimal draw on non-renewable resources and gives high priority to respecting the physical environment.  The intent of this opportunity is to encourage nonprofits to renovate, expand or construct sustainable buildings.

This Assessment Award includes an Energy & Water Use Assessment accompanied by recommended upgrades and improvements to three buildings owned by St. Jude’s.  Southface is partnering with The Community Foundation to provide the services in the Assessment Award. Environmental experts and engineers will examine St. Jude’s building, energy, and water systems using equipment and controls and then recommend ways the building could operate more efficiently.  The assessments take place over a four-to-six month period. The first step in operating more efficiently is becoming aware of where your energy dollars are going, where energy is being wasted, and what options you have to run more efficiently.  This award will help St. Jude’s do just that.

Check back for updates on the assessment process and the new steps St. Jude’s is taking to be green.
