The 2009 Voices of Recovery Luncheon was held on September 30, 2009 at the Atlanta History Center and gather over 350 individuals to support the important work of St. Jude’s Recovery Center. This year's Voice of Recovery speaker was Mariel Hemingway. As the granddaughter of illustrious author, Ernest Hemingway, Mariel was always destined to be well-known and publicly recognized. However, at the young age of 13, Mariel became famous in her own right when she made her silver screen debut in “Lipstick”. Four years later her work in Woody Allen’s “Manhattan” earned her an Oscar nomination. She has since made 30 films and numerous television appearances including a role in Steven Bochco’s highly acclaimed “Civil Wars”.
St. Jude's honored Mr. Michael Hanley, trustee of the Hanley Family Foundation and founder of the Hanley Center, a world-class treatment center in West Palm Beach, Florida. The Hanley Family Foundation is a leader in providing support for addictive disease and has generously funded many substance abuse services in Atlanta.
The emcee for the event, Brenda Wood of 11Alive WXIA shared her personal story of triumph and our honorary chair, Craig Ferguson, sent a humorous introduction to greet the audience. We would like to thank all of our corporate and personal donors for the event.
